Foundations and fork lifts

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Even in the rain and cold today, work at the City Center pressed on. The foundation for the new main entry ramp and stairs is being poured.

Meanwhile inside… the NYS Funeral Directors Association makes good use of the newly reinforced loading dock floor.

This week in Construction

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Driving past the City Center this week, it's business as usual. Most of the glass for the new meeting rooms is in, the shadow boxes along the roof line continue to be added and the foundation for the new grand staircase and escalator is awaiting the steel.

New this week, the foundation for the new entrance ramp and staircase is starting to take shape.

August Happenings

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Lots of construction happenings to update!

The new ADA compliant ramp and entrance between the City Center and the Hotel is now complete! This new ramp will access the Hotel Gallery and the corridor in the City Center that leads to the hotel. This entrance will also serve as our handicap entrance while our main entrance is being built.

Most of the glass for the new meeting rooms is now in place. This week crews are putting in the shadow boxes for the trim along the top of the building.

The walls and ceilings are going in in the new second floor meeting room.

The new balcony and landing for the second floor is also starting to take shape, while foundations for the new pre-function space, Grand Staircase and escalator are being poured! Be on the look out for the steel delivery next week.

The new main entrance is starting to really come together with the canopy.

The new vehicle access ramp into the main hall is just about complete, and works great (as seen in the last post with school buses)

Also inside the building, walls and tile are going in in the lobby and hotel corridor. New carpeting is also expected to go in the lobby as well.

Quick update…

No photos have been taken yet, but the fencing is down on Broadway, at least

temporarily, while the new curb and sidewalk goes in!

Events at the City Center

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

On July 11th and 12th the City Center played host to the New York State Pupil Transportation Association. While glass was being placed, foundations poured and floors dug up, the City Center sales team filled the Main Hall with School Buses!

New Chamber President Visits

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

In the midst of all of this construction, the new Chamber of Commerce President Todd Shimkus took a tour of the City Center Expansion.

Meanwhile… inside the City Center

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

While the glass was being installed, and the foundations poured on Ellsworth Jones Place… inside the City Center the Loading Dock, Kitchen and Wedge Room were getting some new reinforcement to the floor and the tile on the lobby floor was removed. Things are definitely moving along.

Let there be Glass!

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

If you've driven past the City Center in the last week or so, you have probably noticed all of the shiny new glass that is being put in! Needless to say it has been an exciting week for us.

So many updates, so little time

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Since the ESSAE event in June, construction has progressed at a steady pace. While the Ellsworth Jones Place outer wall was being demolished, the City Center hosted 5 Graduations, 2 retirement parties and 3 conferences!

As of June 27th, the City Center is closed to the public with construction crews working on the existing lobby and reinforcing the the kitchen/loading dock floor. Not to worry though, we will be reopened for NY Pupil Transportation on July 11th and 12th and for Pugnacious Promotions Friday Night Fights on July 30th.

In more construction news… Glass for the new meeting rooms is being placed this week, our new HVAC units are being placed as this blog is being written, the loading dock floor is currently a big hole while they reinforce everything (really cool photo to come) and the City Center staff is hard at work making sure the main hall is all clean and shiny.

Finally, the ESSAE pictures!

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Back in June the City Center hosted the Annual ESSAE trade show. At the end of the day, the attendees gathered in what will be our new first floor meeting room. Check it out!
